SEND

“At Newlands we aim to remove barriers so all children can thrive during their time with us.”

Welcome to the Newlands Inclusion Team page, here you will find information about all aspects of SEND both in school and the the county.

A welcome from our Inclusion Lead.

My name is Victoria Millership and I am the Inclusion Lead and SENCO at Newlands. My job is to coordinate provision for all pupils who have or may have special educational needs or disabilities within the school. I work closely with all members of staff at Newlands and when needed, can seek support and guidance from specialists outside the school such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Teachers and colleagues from other schools in the area that may be able to help.

I am incredibly fortunate to have a team of staff that I work closely with to support pupils and we benefit from a spacious school and grounds, with extra spaces inside to provide bespoke support as well as wide corridors and wheelchair accessible facilities for our pupils and visitors.

We support a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities at Newlands, including Autism, ADHD, social communication difficulties and speech and language delays and disorders.

Our Inclusion Team includes:

Mrs Victoria Millership - Inclusion Lead, SENCO and Deputy Safeguarding Lead senco@newlands-tkat.org

Mrs Rae-Anna Lamprell - Safeguarding and Inclusion Admin

What is SEND?

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.

A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:

  • has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or

  • has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.

SEND needs fall into 4 broad categories:
