Flu cases among children are rising earlier than usual this year and health experts are warning that this season could be particularly severe. Latest UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data shows flu activity is three times higher than this time last year, with a sharp increase among school-aged children. Flu is not just a bad cold. It can make children very unwell and is more likely to lead to complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis and ear infections. In severe cases children may become so unwell they need to be admitted to hospital. Children with long-term conditions like asthma or diabetes are at even higher risk. Flu can trigger asthma attacks and make diabetes harder to manage, increasing the risk of serious complications. ❗️Why vaccination matters The nasal spray flu vaccine is quick, painless and the best protection against flu for children under 16. Vaccinating your child not only protects them but also helps stop flu spreading to vulnerable family members, such as grandparents or babies. If your child is unable to have the nasal flu due to medical or cultural reasons, they can have an alternative porcine free injectable option. ❓What to do if your child hasn’t had the flu vaccine 📍Consent for your child’s school vaccination online. https://www.kentimmunisations.co.uk/Forms/Flu 📍Missed the school session? Book a catch-up appointment at a local community clinic. https://family.kentcht.nhs.uk/support/health-services-for-families-with-school-aged-children/immunisation-service/immunisation-community-clinics/ 📍Book a flu injection at a local community clinic if needed for cultural or medical reasons. https://family.kentcht.nhs.uk/support/health-services-for-families-with-school-aged-children/immunisation-service/immunisation-community-clinics/ 📍Children aged two to three years can be vaccinated at our community clinics, at their GP surgery or participating pharmacy. 🎄Don’t let flu ruin the festive season. Protect your child and your family.

Yesterday year 1 took part in a science lesson where we were looking at aspects of seasonal change. The children began by exploring temperature in a context they already knew, such as warm and cold water. We used a thermometer to observe and record the changes between iced water and warm water. We then explored the temperature in the classroom and outside. We noticed the classroom was a nice and toasty 24 degrees but outside was only 7 degrees! We then looked at the seasonal changes in the environment such as the leaves which had fallen and their colours, we also enjoyed throwing them into the wind. This led nicely on to checking the wind direction using our windsocks, as weather is a key aspect in being able to identify the season. Finally, we took a visit to the forestry area to see if our rain gauge was collecting rain. In the last 3 weeks we have had 2 inches of rain! The children found it fascinating being able to observe and record these changes and link this directly to the learning they have explored in the classroom.

Last's week's Anti-Bullying week meant all the children spent time thinking about the 'Power of Good' and all the good things we can do for each other. Kingsgate Bay learnt to sing "The Power in you" to link in with this message. Well done Kingsgate Bay for your beautiful singing!

The children in St Mildred's Bay completed their 2 minute silence yesterday after watching a video about Remembrance Day. The children also watched some of the live stream from The Cenotaph war memorial in London on Sunday. The class then created their own poppy paintings using finger and hand prints. Mr Foley said it was great to see the children so engaged and intrigued in the learning! Well done St Mildred's Bay!

This years' Anti-Bullying Week theme, 'Power for Good' has come about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes. We will be using the Anti-Bullying Alliance resources in school this week to focus on how we can actively use our Power for Good, and what we can do to stop bullying. #AntiBullyingWeek #PowerForGood

St Mildred's Bay had a spooktacular day full of fun activities. During today's special bucket time, Mr Foley pulled out lots of tricks and treats from his cauldron, followed by a pumpkin volcano and some blood covered hands! The children have also had some pumpkin play-doh mats they could design with their own faces which were very creative! Mr Foley also made a halloween themed sensory tray for some fine motor skill practice, using tweezers to seperate the bats and eyeballs! 🎃
