The children in St Mildred's Bay completed their 2 minute silence yesterday after watching a video about Remembrance Day. The children also watched some of the live stream from The Cenotaph war memorial in London on Sunday. The class then created their own poppy paintings using finger and hand prints. Mr Foley said it was great to see the children so engaged and intrigued in the learning! Well done St Mildred's Bay!

This years' Anti-Bullying Week theme, 'Power for Good' has come about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes. We will be using the Anti-Bullying Alliance resources in school this week to focus on how we can actively use our Power for Good, and what we can do to stop bullying. #AntiBullyingWeek #PowerForGood

St Mildred's Bay had a spooktacular day full of fun activities. During today's special bucket time, Mr Foley pulled out lots of tricks and treats from his cauldron, followed by a pumpkin volcano and some blood covered hands! The children have also had some pumpkin play-doh mats they could design with their own faces which were very creative! Mr Foley also made a halloween themed sensory tray for some fine motor skill practice, using tweezers to seperate the bats and eyeballs! 🎃

Polly Billington Becomes Honorary Member of Newlands Primary School Council Children at Newlands Primary School in Ramsgate were thrilled to welcome a very special visitor last week — Polly Billington, Labour MP for Thanet. Polly joined the newly elected School Council to discuss their manifesto pledges, share ideas for upcoming Halloween celebrations, and give the children a glimpse into life as a Member of Parliament working near the iconic Big Ben. As part of the visit, Polly presented the new councillors with their official School Council badges, marking the start of their term representing their classmates. In a surprise twist, Headteacher Mr. Bailey presented Polly with her very own honorary School Council badge — a gesture that delighted the MP. “I’m absolutely honoured to have been made an honorary member of the Newlands School Council,” said Polly Billington MP. “The children were full of bright ideas, enthusiasm, and a real sense of responsibility for their school community. It was wonderful to see their commitment — and to receive my first ever school badge!” The visit coincided with World Mental Health Day, which the children marked by wearing yellow to raise awareness and show support for positive mental health. “We were so pleased to welcome Polly to Newlands,” said Headteacher Mr. Bailey. “Our pupils were inspired by her visit and proud to share the great work they’re doing on issues that matter to them — from kindness and mental health to community spirit. It’s a day they won’t forget.” Polly’s visit was a memorable occasion that celebrated youth leadership, civic engagement, and the importance of talking about mental health — all core values at Newlands Primary School.

Last Wednesday, Year 1 and 2 enjoyed participating in a Multi-Sport Festival. The children practised their throwing and catching skills in a series of sports games, such as: dodgeball, handball, skittles and a passing and catching race. It was a fantastic afternoon, and was amazing to see the children developing their skills, working as a team and getting competitive. They showed incredible sportsmanship throughout the festival, as they cheered for each other's success, and shook hands with the opposing schools. Mr Musgrove and Miss Warner were very proud of their triumphant efforts, and enjoyed seeing the children having fun as they embraced the new challenges.

Our Year 5/6 girls travelled to Cliftonville to take part in the first round of the DW cup. Competing against the hosts themselves, Stone Bay, Drapers Mill and St Gregory's in a round robin format, all the schools vied to progress to the next round. The day started with a tough 1-0 loss to Draper's Mill, despite some excellent defending and goalkeeping to keep them in contention. It was a back-and-forth affair that ended with Newlands just falling on the wrong side of the result. This was followed by a 2-0 loss to eventual winners Cliftonville and another 2-0 defeat to Stone Bay, though the latter was a much closer contest. Despite their best efforts and incredible teamwork and cheerleading, a narrow 1-0 defeat in their final fixture rounded out the day. Although the results did not go Newlands' way, the day was earmarked by fantastic team spirit, sportsmanship and effort. We would like to say how proud we are of our girls and the way they competed throughout the tournament and we can't wait to see them get back out there!
